WHAT is Touch for Health® Kinesiology (TFHK)?
Touch for Health® Kinesiology (TFHK) is a system of balancing posture, emotions and energy for greater comfort, vitality, and enjoyment of your life. Touch for Health is the most widely used system of kinesiology in the world. It is a synthesis of ancient knowledge of the Chinese acupuncture meridians and techniques derived from chiropractic, naturopathy, osteopathy, and even person-cantered counselling, including acupressure, a variety of touch reflexes, meridian tracing, nutrition and a variety of mind-body techniques for balancing the subtle energies while focusing on meaningful, personal goals.
It’s a holistic therapy that focuses on identifying if the root cause/triggers of your health problems
are:
- Physical – Structure, Muscles & Neurology
- Chemical – What we put into our body and or what we are missing
- Emotional/Spiritual/Energetic – Work, Family, Belief systems
The above 3 triggers are 3 key reasons for dysfunction in the human body which over time can lead to symptoms and ill health. For most people there will be at least 2 of the triggers causing dysfunction in the body.
The Touch for Health model does not treat or diagnose symptoms but works on balancing the whole body by focusing on the 3 triggers to restore function and wellbeing to the body allowing the body to restore balance.
Touch for Health’s popularity is due to its simplicity, its effectiveness, and its fast yet profound results to:
- Improvement in general health
- Increased energy and vitality
- Removes blocks, barriers and emotional triggers
- More confidence and personal motivation
- Improved posture and relief from physical pain and tension
- Stress relief and day to day stress management strategies
- Assistance to change attitudes, set and achieve personal goals
- Enhanced brain function and therefore improved co-ordination, life, work and sports performance
- Manage emotional stress

HOW does it work?
Muscle testing is essentially a way to “communicate” with the body and to receive information about what the body needs. It shows us where energy is blocked in the body and the respective corrections required (these could be physical, chemical, emotional). This process is used as a biofeedback mechanism to identify stressors in and around the body and restore balance.
Each session is specific to each patient depending on what their goal/goals are. Usually, 1 hour should suffice however for more complex cases this may need to be extended.
The example below shows how key muscles relates to one of the 14 meridians in the Human body. By recording which muscles are unlocking and which meridian points are over energized our focus is then to balance each of the muscles unlocking using the technique that best suits the body.

How reliable is it?
As with most things related to alternative healthcare robust scientific studies are hard to come by due to the nature of how health care research is funded however below are a few published studies on the reliability of muscle testing in the context of Kinesiology.
“Conclusion -The applied kinesiology muscle strength test, which has great clinical feasibility, showed good accuracy in diagnosing sacroiliac joint dysfunction and greater discriminatory power for the existing dysfunction in comparison to other tests.”

Chiropractic Care and Human Performance – case studies
In 2006, three researchers undertook a study looking at the effect of chiropractic adjustments on movement time [1]. They were looking specifically at Fitt’s Law – a model of human movement based on pointing and manipulation tasks involving computers. The group was small, with just ten participants. But a significant change was noted in the…
