Hydrate with Lemon-Ginger Electrolyte Drink

With the right ingredients, you can whip up your own electrolyte-infused drink. The key is including sugar, salt, and plenty of water. Refresh after a grueling workout or exhausting day with this electrolyte-packed water. It will give you a natural boost of energy, vitamins, and minerals. This Lemon-Ginger Drink will surprise you and let you feel amazing.

Ingredients:

  • 1 (4″) piece ginger,
  • peeled1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
  • 2 teaspoons agave nectar or honey
  • 1/8 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 2 3/4 cups mineral or coconut water

Coconut water is nature’s version of a sports drink. It contains five main electrolytes: potassium, magnesium, calcium, phosphorus, and sodium. Like a sports drink, coconut water also has sugar. What’s the difference, then? A store-bought sports drink has up to four times as much sodium as coconut water, but it also contans high-fructose corn syrup instead of natural glucose and fructose.

Method Lemon-Ginger Drink

Step 1

Finely grate ginger and, using a flexible spatula, press solids into a fine-mesh sieve set over a small bowl; discard pulp. You should have about 1 tsp. ginger juice.

Step 2

Combine ginger juice, lemon juice, lime juice, agave, and salt in a large measuring cup or bowl. Stir in mineral water. Pour over 2 glasses filled with ice.

Do Ahead

Step 3

Lemon-ginger mixture can be made 1 day ahead. Cover and chill. Stir vigorously before adding mineral water.
